Israeli Apartheid Week, Peterborough - March 1st to 8th, 2009
BACKGROUND
The fifth annual Israeli Apartheid Week is March 1-8, 2009 and Peterborough Coalition for Palestinian Solidarity will be hosting numerous events throughout the week. Last year 25 cities around the world participated in IAW events that recognized the 60 years that have passed since Palestinians have been expelled from their homes and land.
This year's IAW has significant importance in the wake of the recent attacks on Gaza. PCPS will be providing educational forums, films and workshops to provide Trent students, faculty and staff as well as the community of Peterborough an opportunity to learn and interact with each other.
Transportation will be provided by the TCSA for a rally hosted by the Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid in Toronto on Saturday March 7.
In the weeks leading up to IAW, aggression and pressure have been placed on student organizers on campuses around Ontario. Last week, Carleton posters advertising IAW were torn down and banned from the campus in efforts to silence students from engaging in events that promote open discussions and information gathering.
We encourage all interested community members to show their support and solidarity with campus organizers and efforts made to provide awareness, education and participation.
